We finally got to ride the train to Kyle of Lochalsh – it was something we had wanted to do for ages but never got around to. We boarded at Achnasheen (after breakfast at the nearby Midge Bite – always yummy!).
It was a glorious day. The train actually starts a Inverness but we think the section from Achnasheen is probably the loveliest. It goes right along the water, past Attadale Gardens (there is a request stop there) and ends right on the dock at Kyle of Lochalsh. At the time of writing there are four trains a day. We got the 1018 which gave us a couple of hours in Kyle of Lochalsh before coming back.
The last section goes through some very narrow cuttings made specially for the line – according to the Friends of the Kyle Line, it cost the equivalent of £18million today!
It was definitely a special journey. Let us know on Instagram or Facebook if you have done it.
