Gairloch Museum on the North Coast 500

Our trips up to Aodann have been a bit thwarted by COVID so it was only in autumn 2021 that we finally got to visit the new Gairloch Museum which has a great location right on the North Coast 500 route with a cafe that looks out over the sea.

Its housed in a really well converted old military building and we love it!

The cafe is fabulous, really spacious with a great range of food. Its on the first floor and the windows look out over the sea to Skye (isn’t that line from a song?!).

What we particularly like is the way that the exhibits are themed. Also, sometimes museums try to tell you too much but here the balance is just right and we learned so much.

It won an award as Art Fund Museum of the Year in 2020 and it was well deserved.

Yikes! The old warning sign from “anthrax island” along the coast from Aodann.
